17 August 2009

More than twenty devotees, led by Reverends Pian and Woon of the Thai Chetawan Buddhist Temple off Jln Gasing, paid a visit to NASAM PJ on 8 August 2009. The occasion was to officially hand over 4 pieces of Airex floor mats and 3 pieces of therabands which the temple had kindly donated to us. The supplier was on hand to receive the payment.

The visitors were welcomed by Shen Chan who played the video on NASAM. This was followed by a talk on stroke by Tracy Chan before the visitors were shown around the premises. Light refreshments were served. Janet Yeo dropped by and talked with some devotees before they left. Many thanks to the temple and the devotees for their generous donations in kind as well as cash.

On 13 August 2009, Tracy and Shen were guests at Johnson & Johnson in conjunction with their Safety & Health Week. Tracy delivered a talk on stroke in Bahasa Malaysia to about 35 employees who showed keen interest by asking questions.

With effect from 15 August 2009, Sujan has been promoted to the position of Rehab Therapist-in-charge at NASAM Penang. Strokees at NASAM PJ organised a rousing send-off party for Sujan on 14 August 2009.

Janet Yeo gave a short speech on Sujan's promotion and expressed her wish for Sujan to excel in Penang. This was followed by Sujan expressing his thanks to the PJ team. Strokees from the advance group presented a farewell gift to Sujan. Strokees Patricia Tan and Michael Tan then shared their NASAM experiences with all present before the music was turned on for some Bollywood dancing. After a group photo, all helped themselves to the wide array of food and dessert. Before they left, strokees and carers bade a fond farewell to Sujan. Good wishes to Sujan in Penang.

Board member Sharifah came by NASAM PJ on 17 August 2009 to train 6 female and 4 male strokees walk on the catwalk in preparation for a fashion show on 16 September 2009 as part of the cheque presentation by the Truly Loving Company.

The "models" very gamely strode out and moved to the beat of the music. Sharifah will be training them over the next few weeks, with a full dress rehearsal planned for 9 September 2009.

On 12 August 2009, 27 strokees and carers, 3 therapists, 2 volunteers, 3 Masterskill students from NASAM Ampang made a  half day trip to Pavilion in Bukit Bintang.

The strokees split into 3 groups, one group went with speech therapist Cecilia, another  with physios Annie and Josephine and one more group went shopping independently. The groups strolled and browsed around the mall comfortably and confidently, discussing items sold in the various shops. The strokees were encouraged to find their way around and ask for directions. Later, everyone met up at the Food Republic for lunch.

The management of Pavilion gave everyone a gift from Tangs and Memory Lane. The strokees were so touched and happy as they had a jolly good time.
